Born 1964 in Munich, after finishing school 6 months in Paris, studied history and german literature in Freiburg and Hamburg, 1997 PhD in history (Publication 1998: Flüchtige Heimat. Jüdische Displaced Persons in Landsberg am Lech 1945-1950), 1993/4 at the Goethe-Institut in Munich, Iserlohn and Budapest, 1994-96 DAAD-Lektorin at the University of Liverpool, 1996-2002 at the Forschungsstelle für Zeitgeschichte in Hamburg (amongst other publications: Angelika Eder (ed.), Wir sind auch da, über das Leben von und mit Migranten in europäischen Großstädten, Hamburg 2003). Since 2002 working again at the Goethe-Institut, since 2005 director of the Goethe-Institut in Kraków.
